Incredibile saggio di storia dell'arte assolutamente da leggere. Non è, come pure tanti hanno detto, un saggio di storia sociale dell'arte. Si tratta di un saggio che pone in primo piano tutte, ma proprio tutte, quelle cause che portano alla nascita dell'opera d'arte. Alcuni esempi presi in esame nel libro: il Forth Bridge di Baker e il ritratto di Kahnweiler di Picasso. Un ponte tra critica storia per capire l'opera d'arte, la sua nascita e la sua funzione. (
