The Burial Hour is book 13 in the Lincoln Rhyme series and once again Deaver shows what a fantastic writer he is. I have to admit that I was not as taken with this book as I was with Steel Kiss the book before, at least not in the beginning. Don't take me wrong, the book is good, well-written, with an interesting case that will bring Rhyme and Sachs all the way to Italy. However, I was not impressed with the kidnapper. The Composer just never struck me as a very interesting villain. Not compared to other villains that Rhyme and Sachs have had to stop in previous books. However, this is Deaver we are talking about, around 100 pages before the book ended did it seem that they have closed the case which surprised me. I mean there is a lot of more pages to fill out, it can't be this simple? And, it was not. It's towards the end that Dever pulls the rug out from the reader's feet and twist the story, and suddenly wow! This is what I'm talking about, now the story of the book suddenly become very intense. The Burial Hour is a great book, I love the new setting of Italy. That really made me eager to try out more crime books set in Italy. The contrast between the Italian law enforcement and the American was interesting to observe and I came to like Ercole Benelli, the Forestry officer that Rhyme and Sache worked it, very much. HTML:Forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme is back with his most harrowing case yet in this newest installment of Jeffrey Deaver's New York Times bestselling series. A businessman snatched from an Upper East Side street in broad daylight. A miniature hangman's noose left at the scene. A nine-year-old girl, the only witness to the crime. With a crime scene this puzzling, forensic expertise of the highest order is absolutely essential. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are called in to investigate. Soon the case takes a stranger turn: a recording surfaces of the victim being slowly hanged, his desperate gasps the backdrop to an eerie piece of music. The video is marked as the work of The Composer... Despite their best efforts, the suspect gets away. So when a similar kidnapping occurs on a dusty road outside Naples, Italy, Rhyme and Sachs don't hesitate to rejoin the hunt. But the search is now a complex case of international cooperation—and not all those involved may be who they seem. Sachs and Rhyme find themselves playing a dangerous game, with lives all across the globe hanging in the balance. No library descriptions found. |

A child witnesses the snatching of a man on the street and the only clues they have is a hangman’s noose and shoe print., along with a child’s statement. While Sachs and Rhymes work and walk the scene the kidnappers trail seems to go cold when the victim is found alive and remembers nothing.
With no new crime or crime scene they have to load all the information they have on to databases including international ones to see if there are any matches. When a similar crime happens in Naples, Italy Rhymes and Sachs fly out. At first, they find some hostility from the local sets of police whom they eventually work with as consultants to hunt for a kidnapper who shows no reason to kidnap his victims. Though he does load up videos as if he is composing a piece of music.
While in Naples the American consulate asks Rhyme and Sachs for their help as an American student has been arrested for rape and is shouting that he is innocent. It does not take long for Rhymes to deduct that something is wrong especially as they work with the police and the local prosecutor. They even have their very own enthusiastic officer in Ercole Benelli to guide and drive them around Naples. He is also able to help them as they gather evidence across the crime scenes. But will they ever be able to find the person responsible for the kidnappings while they are in Italy?
This is another fantastic thriller well worth reading. ( )
