Metaphysics: A Contemporary Introduction is aimed at students of metaphysics who have already completed an introductory philosophy course. This third edition of the successful textbook provides a fresh look at key topics in metaphysics and includes two new chapters on time and causation. Wherever possible, Loux links contemporary views to their classical sources in the history of philosophy. This new edition also keeps the user-friendly format, the chapter overviews summarizing the main topics and examples to clarify difficult concepts. No library descriptions found. |

However, Loux gives little coverage of fictionalism, and perhaps could make the work more accessible by actually cutting out some of the excess verbiage and superfluous reiteration -- these things often add clarity but in rare cases can cause a great deal of misunderstanding, and can make the reader view the piece (book or chapter) as a daunting task. For a SAQed version of chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5, feel free to contact me. If Loux is uncomfortable with this, I understand and will do as he suggests. ( )
