Wolves Willy and Wally try to satisfy a sweet-tooth craving by dressing up as private eyes and chasing down a runaway cookie. I liked this book for a couple reasons. First, I noticed how the illustrations flow nicely and how they enhance they story. Most of the illustrations clearly represent the plot and allow the audience to see the behavior and personalities of the characters that may not be as evident in the text. For example, when the “bad boys,” Willy and Wally, are chasing the cookie you can clearly see that they are up to no good by their sly expressions ant their mischievous grins. Also, I liked how the writing is organized and flows nicely with the story. For example, when Willy and Wally inch forward on a branch while trying to catch Cookie, the author writes, “the boys waited. They watched. They inched, Further, Farther. And then…” The way the sentences are short and choppy allow the reader to understand that the boys are slowly climbing across the branch getting ready to pounce on Cookie. Overall, the big idea of the story is that sometimes it isn’t worth worrying about small things that take up too much of your time. The “bad boys” were trying to catch Cookie so that they could eat him instead of returning him to the bakery, but they realized that it wasn’t worth their time to go after one small cookie so they decided to go eat dinner instead. I can see how some adult readers might not be overly impressed, but I was thoroughly tickled. Rowdy goofy fun, with perfectly apt illustrations. Kids gotta love the Willy and Wally and their costumes, especially when disguised as Hansel and Gretel. Probably you'd enjoy it more if you read the first in the series before this, to get properly introduced, but you don't need to really. no reviews | add a review
