"Fear keeps you safe, darling, because, as we know, the worst can happen,”

The story is okay, the characters interesting - but I just didn't feel like there was anything here that stood out or made it amazing. It's a typical story of family dynamics that don't work and a few dysfunctional marriages that have secrets. But I felt like most of the surprises were either obvious or not all that shocking. Maybe I just wasn't pulled into the story enough - either way, it was just okay. ( )

Another book billed as a psychological thriller, but wasn't! Finding it more difficult to find true psychological thrillers. However, it was a good story of the dynamics of a very dysfunctional family. 352 pages ( )

Maggie marries Nico who has lost his first wife, Caitlin, to illness. She is unable to do anything right in the eyes of her mother in law, who holds Caitlin up as the epitome of a good wife. Nico's brother Massimo, and his wife Lara, have a son, Sandro.
The family dynamics are very complex and the book takes the reader through a roller coaster of emotions. It is so well written that you begin to think you are a part of the family. It is powerful, chilling, moving, thought provoking, and amazing.
I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it. ( )
