There are two horrific murders right at the start...a young man eviscerated in the middle of a festival and an elderly woman brutally killed, with every bone in her body being broken. The M.O. of the two murders are certainly different, so does that mean they were committed by two different killers? As more people are killed and Luc and Ava realize that the graffiti left describing the victims is actually showing up before they are killed, Soon the police realize that all the murders are tied together, and they are running out of time to try and prevent any more murders from happening. In spite of the horrific murders, I really enjoyed this story. Both the plot and the characters were very well done. I don’t want to give any away spoilers, but basically it reminded me a bit of an Agatha Christie novel. I was very sure that Luc and Ava were going to be together, so I was surprised to find that they were only friends and not even "friends with benefits". I’m really curious to see how their friendship will develop because they have bucket loads of chemistry. Overall, it was a really interesting story. I had read the first book and thought that perhaps this one would continue with the storyline from that one...but this one is diffidently a standalone novel, and I will certainly continue to read this author. Second in the series of ' Perfect..". Haven't read the first. So my intro to Ava and Luc and their team . Some grisly murders with for me an additional extremely brutal killing of an animal in one background of one of the killers by his father which is a tiny insight into what kind of a childhood he had and could perhaps be given the criminal and family law background if the author be a show of a strand of why he turned out the way he did. And which can lie in the background of many people who kill. It did keep me guessing. I had no clue as to who was driving the murders. It was quite a shock but once revealed made so much sense. The last few pages were almost unbearable for tension. A few unlikely heroes emerged and like other readers I hope they appear in the next few books. One extremely compassionate officer paid a tragic price and another of Lucs team melted very slightly toward him. I can easily see how Ava and Luc"s dealings with each other can get old very fast. But am interested to read more. OK fast paced Police procedural set in Edinburgh DI Luc Callanach a handsome half French half Scottish policeman based in Edinburgh is in charge of investigating some gruesome murders that prove to be connected. Graffiti appears on walls with clues as to the occupation of the person who will be killed next. First a Charity worker Second a Palative care nurse Third an old man who helps Children read Next job mentioned is a Lollypop Lady. DI Callanach his Boss DI Ava Turner and the rest of the team need to be quick to stop another death. Lots of twists along the way. Callanach teams up with a great Hacker and a Journalist they create an online profile to try and catch out the person who is orchestrating these murders. There is a Moderator and two killers Sem Culpa and Grom who are in a sick competition to try and kill as many people in the most barbaric way. It turns out the Moderator has organised the whole idea and killings so he can have his wife bumped off and steal her money. The Police save the wife who is a humans rights lawyer they also manage to save the Lollypop lady. Good characters and a good flowing book. no reviews | add a review

Ava completely ruined this book for me, so much so that I wanted to skip over her parts and found myself almost dreading her popping up in scenes she wasn't in. She went from a great and strong character in book one to a total twat in this book, ignoring Callanach (who's supposed to be a friend of hers) and getting angry with or shouting at him whenever he showed concern for her or wanted to know something, but expected him to bend to her will when she said so and tell her everything about everything when she wouldn't tell him a thing. She was so bad that I am questioning my desire to continue the series since I know she is a part of its entirety. I'm also pretty over it with all the 'dancing around romance between work partners' elements authors throw into stories. These characters are adults, open your mouth and communicate like it or get over it.
The actual murder story with its gore and over the top staging was fine with me, and if Ava's hissy fits and rude/annoying behavior weren't a part of it, I would have enjoyed the book a lot more.
There were parts that dragged on and on a little and I just wanted them to be over with already, but if you got rid of Ava it could have been a pretty great story I think. ( )
