The charges: explosive

Alex Cross has never been on the wrong side of the law-until now. Charged with gunning down followers of his nemesis Gary Soneji in cold blood, Cross is being turned into the poster child for trigger-happy cops who think they're above the law. Cross knows it was self-defense. But will a jury see it that way?

The evidence: shocking

As Cross fights for his professional life and his freedom, his former partner John Sampson brings him a gruesome, titillating video tied to the mysterious disappearances of several young girls. Despite his suspension from the department, Cross can't say no to Sampson. The illicit investigation leads them to the darkest corners of the Internet, where murder is just another form of entertainment.

The People vs Alex Cross: the trial of the century

As the prosecution presents its case and the nation watches, even those closest to Cross begin to doubt his innocence. If he can't convince his own family that he didn't pull the trigger with intent to kill, how can he hope to persuade a jury? But even with everything on the line, Cross will do whatever it takes to stop a dangerous criminal-even if he can't save himself.

The People vs Alex Cross is the twenty-fifth book in the Alex Cross series. This is not one of the better books in the series. While the trial is believable and the crimes committed, they way things are resolved are stretched beyond the limits of believability where the trial is concerned. Justice might be blind folded but that is because she would be embarrassed by the state of the court justice and money.

People, mainly journalists and their photographers are waiting outside the family home waiting for an appearance before they travel together to court. Cross is the defendant in a federal case accused of being aggressive and shouting at unarmed suspects and committing murder. He has an impressive defence team opposed by an equally impressive prosecuting federal team. While suspended from the police while the case progresses his former partner, John Sampson, involves him in a case where female blondes are disappearing. The case had been going nowhere, but the tenacious work of Cross and Sampson get the break in the case they require.

The case involving Cross has the verdict the reader would expect. The real crime in this book is how the trial has been written. I recognise it is fictional and artistic licence but keep it believable please. ( )

Dear Mr Patterson. You don’t to have so many chapters. It’s especially irritating in audiobooks as the music or chapter sounds interrupt the flow. ( )

In this 25th book in the Alex Cross series, Alex confronts a past archenemy, Gary Soneji! Actually, there are three! But isn't this guy dead? Is Alex delusional? After being lured to a warehouse to face his past, Alex kills two and wounds a third unarmed Gary Soneji look-alike, and Alex is now on trial for murder. And the irrefutable proof is on video. While Alex's lawyers prepare his defense, he and Detective John Sampson investigate evil computer hackers that are kidnapping blondes to make snuff films, then posting them on the dark web. This engaging thriller has abundant suspense, non-stop action, and hi-tech computer skills. Also included is a bonus Cross Shot story, "Cross Kill," which provides an in-depth background of this book. ( )

Yet he seems to always manage to envelop his readers in two equally important major story lines—like a two-plot story in which the subplot is as relevant as the main. Not easy to pull off for any writer.
