Welcome to Spellbound, where paranormal is the new normal. The only magic Emma Hart believes in is caffeine and the power of the dryer to lose one sock per load. A public interest lawyer buried under a mound of student debt, Emma's whole life has been one turn of bad luck after another. Her streak seems to continue when she gets lost on the way to see a client in the remote Pocono Mountains. A chance encounter with a suicidal angel lands her in Spellbound, a town where supernaturals have been cursed to remain for centuries-probably not the best time for Emma to discover that she's actually a witch. Between the recent murder of the town's public defender, a goblin accused of theft, remedial witch classes, and the attention of one smoking hot vampire, Emma struggles to navigate this unfamiliar terrain without losing her mind . . . or her life.… (more)

the writing is terrible. It feels like it's written by a 13 year old, and all the characters talk like a 13 year old thinks adult talk.
I'm not sure how this was published.
And 4 stars on goodreads?? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

In this cute cozy paranormal mystery, lawyer Emma Hart is driving in the Poconos when she gets lost and accidentally is trapped in a forcefield surrounding the town of Spellbound. An angel, Daniel, explains to her that the town was cursed long ago and any supernatural who passes through its borders can never leave, which of course comes as a surprise to Emma, since she’s totally human… or is she?

Now she has to adjust to her life as a newly discovered witch, figure out how to defend a goblin on trial, and try to free the town from this terrible curse. This was a cute, fun cozy. Will definitely be checking out book two!

Trigger Warnings: attempted suicide

*I don't know what I want from cozy mysteries. They're light, easy, and fast-paced.

*But at the same time, I want more substance.

*And a dial-down on the cutesy, patootsy stuff.

*Someone could say that I'm reading the wrong stuff, then, and just read one of the more "serious" ones.

*But I like reading small-town mysteries... for they're light, easy, and fast-paced. Yes.

*I told you I can't make up my mind about cozy mysteries.

*I like watching Hallmark's Garage Sale Mystery series though. ( )
