a boy has a map to pirate treasure

Nothing really works. Since it's not taken seriously, the plot's pretty much just a backdrop, and too Disney-fied to have been good anyway. The humor is rarely funny (although there are a handful of delightful bits). The musical numbers are all tedious crap. On the other hand, there's Tim Curry playing one of the most iconic villains ever and clearly loving every second of it.

After telling the story of Flint's last journey to young Jim Hawkins, Billy Bones has a heart attack and dies just as Jim and his friends are attacked by pirates.
