Eye for an Eye – Manchester’s Finest Inspector

Those who do not know Detective Inspector Jessica Daniels, where have you been? This is one female detective, who having to fight her way up in the police, with enemies on the inside and out, certainly likes doing things her own way.

Daniels is based at Longsight Police Station, a couple of miles outside of the city centre, and is base to many of Greater Manchester Police’s finest. When after a briefing Acting Chief Constable asks for her and her line manager, DCI Topper to remain behind she is suspicious. Knowing nothing good ever comes from these sort of briefing, she knows she was correct when told their assignment.

Her and Topper have been given the job of backing up a witness protection team who have Damian Walker, a convicted killer to manage. A new name, a new house, a new area of Manchester, everything should be fine.

When bodies start appearing, that are similar to the crimes committed by Walker, Daniels and Topper have to run a parallel investigation. Little do they know what that will cost, especially as they can only ever be reactive, especially when Walker’s new identity and house is announced on social media.

Walker is on the run and has taken a hostage of one of the protection officers, and nobody has a clue where he might go. At the same time there are reports that the officer’s pregnant wife has been taken also. Daniels knows she is up against the clock for a successful outcome to come out of this disaster.

At the same time Daniels must deal with rock star Blaine Banner, who is playing a series of homecoming gigs at the Manchester Arena. At the same time, he is convinced that someone is trying to kill him, not that it helps that he spends most of his time out of his mind on drink and drugs.

While outside Longsight Police Station a bride-to-be is picketing them demanding that they find her fiancé and that the police are not doing enough. When the gossip sheets get involved, Daniels must ignore them and carry on.

Whether she can solve all the various investigations going on, as well as search for her room mate and keep her sanity is the big question. How will she be able to solve these alleged crimes and get on with the rest of her life, you will have to read to find out.

Once again Kerry Wilkinson has delivered a brilliant Daniels thriller that will keep you guessing all the way to the end. ( )
