It shouldn't surprise me that she can layer in flashbacks during our MC's interactions with others, yet not lose me. I appreciated no disruption in the narrative (every "flashback" serves the current moment), and I appreciated even more being trusted to keep up. This is a relationship disrupted story with a very satisfying ending, and some laugh out loud dialogue, particularly between Darius (original MC name) and other guns for hire. I'm going to have to re-read the Marshals series to pick up on some references. Clearly there's history, but you learn what you need to. My favorite part of this novel is how intense their love is despite distance. Go read it. no reviews | add a review

Second from The Vault Terrence Moss. Conrad Harris. Gold Team Leader. Darius Hawthorne. The Vault. Juggling all these names would bother some, but for Darius, it's business as usual. When he closes a chapter in his life, he leaves a nameâand the people associated with itâbehind. He's managed to keep a few colleagues, even fewer friends, and no companionship through his forty-plus years⦠but that's now changing. The newest chapter of his life is bringing serious change: a stable home, a recovered identity, an unlikely family, and now a chance encounter with the one man Darius ever loved: Efrem Lahm. The reasons they parted are still valid, and there's no way they can trust each other. But Efrem has already decided he won't let Darius go⦠and Darius will have to decide if he wants to take a chance with his heart this late in the day. No library descriptions found. |

I liked it, I just think that maybe I expected more here.
I liked Darius and all of his cohorts. I enjoyed watching him grow his little family. I especially enjoyed the look in at previous stories and tie ins of some of these characters, that is always really well done by Mary Calmes
I also enjoyed the trips down memory lane, that helped shape Darius character and show his motivations, and connections with the other characters but at the same time I think they also took away from the story a bit, because while we were getting to know Darius, Efrem’s motivations were largely ignored.
After seeing Darius / Conrad/ Terrance in previous books I think I expected more action in this one, but apart from the flash backs not a lot happened in this one ( )
