I absolutely hated the voice of the first story/chapter/thing, or as much as I read of it. It had characters' accents pseudo-phonetically transcribed, which is always hard to read and also insulting, and the Early Modern English verb endings didst be-eth complete nonsense which is a personal bugbear (they're not that hard!) And then the author seemed to be cramming in as many random famous figures from throughout known history as they could think of with no rhyme nor reason other than the cool factor. I did not find it cool.

So I skipped to the next story/chapter/thing only to discover it was more of the same, as was the next. Because the book boasted multiple authors I'd assumed it was an anthology but - if not a unified novel (I couldn't bear to read enough to identify if the plotline ran through) it's a shared universe and they seem to be sharing the style as well which, ugh. Not at all to my taste. ( )

Again, hit and miss. Most of the stories were okay with a few that were of particular interest to me. The okay stories often had twist endings that were interesting. ( )
