I love Jude, Cardan...all of them. ( ) A pleasant read. I did enjoy the story, but felt more could've been done. I imagine this may be an excellent series to someone new to fantasy. It's an intro to both fantasy and romance, with the spice level being extremely mild. There is a good portion of this series where Jude is knee deep in self pity. A big pet peeve of mine is when female characters are meant to be strong spies, assassins, etc., but the author just has them complaining all the time and making dumb decisions. Jude should've seen a few things coming if she were the actual character I believe Holly was trying to write, but alas we have some juvenile actions that don't fit. In the beginning, it's mentioned how dumb it is to make deals with the fae, and yet, Jude made a pretty dumb deal at the end. Not only did I see the flaws with it, but I also saw the workaround immediately. Jude on the other hand, never figured it out, and it wasn't until the next book that she had to be informed. Despite there being a lot of negative stereotypes with pretty much all the female characters, It was an easy read and I'm continuing the series. My wish with Holly Black and other writers out there, stop making females so dumb. Overall, it was decent, but at no point was I obsessed. This was an easy book to put down, and to pick up. no reviews | add a review

To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished. When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world. .No library descriptions found.
