Mr. Love and Justice, the last and best book of The London Novels trilogy, is the story of Frankie Love, an out-of-work merchant sailor and Edward Justice, a newly-minted officer in the London vice squad. Alternating its focus between the two protagonists, the novel follows them along the collision course Love's career change to pimp (ponce, in British English) propels them on to. Both men are in troublesome relationships with women, Frankie for obvious reasons, Ted because he's not married (which the Force frowns upon) and his girlfriend's father is an ex-con. Mix in several other tricky relationships and have both pairs of lovers move into the same building and you've got an entertaining, suspenseful story about love and sex in the late 1950s.

I finished Mr. Love and Justice in a day. It's easy to read, but the characters and their destinies also hold your attention. ( )

"Mr Love and Justice" is the final volume of MacInnes' London series set in the post-war re-build of the late 50's- early 60's. The story focuses on the worlds of Mr Frankie Love, an unemployed seaman who's been roped into the world of pouncing, and Mr Edward Justice, a recently promoted Police officer, who's struggling with his obligations to the force and to his girlfriend, daughter of a criminal. "Mr Love and Justice" resides in the blurry line between between law and the sex industry, falling into the shaded grey area of London life. An enjoyable read, but I don't feel that it has the 'punch' of the other two books in the series. ( )
