I love her books about Nantucket but this was even better in a way, I learned a lot about the US Virgin Islands. Oh man, the scandalous relationship, the love triangle, the beautiful scenery, etc. This book is going to be an awesome read for her fans and I think will inspire new people to read her books, too. I am so excited that this will be a trilogy. So many questions need to be answered. I guess I will have to wait til late 2019 or early 2020 for the sequel. #teamCash thanks Netgalley for the review copy. Winter in Paradise is Elin Hilderbrand’s the first book in the Paradise Trilogy. A luscious rich mystery with characters you instantly fall in love with. This is her first book not set in her home island of Nantucket. St. John in The Caribbean is given the Hilderbrand attention to detail brilliance. Each event is organically thought out so that the novel never descends to contrived melodrama. The sudden death of Irene’s husband sets in motion a series of spectacular encounters that will push you to the edge wonderment at Elin’s writing skills. Enjoy! no reviews | add a review

HTML:A husband's secret life, a wife's new beginning: escape to the Caribbean with #1 New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. Irene Steele shares her idyllic life in a beautiful Iowa City Victorian house with a husband who loves her to sky-writing, sentimental extremes. But as she rings in the new year one cold and snowy night, everything she thought she knew falls to pieces with a shocking phone call: her beloved husband, away on business, has been killed in a helicopter crash. Before Irene can even process the news, she must first confront the perplexing details of her husband's death on the distant Caribbean island of St. John. After Irene and her sons arrive at this faraway paradise, they make yet another shocking discovery: her husband had been living a secret life. As Irene untangles a web of intrigue and deceit, and as she and her sons find themselves drawn into the vibrant island culture, they have to face the truth about their family, and about their own futures. Rich with the lush beauty of the tropics and the drama, romance, and intrigue only Elin Hilderbrand can deliver, Winter in Paradise is a truly transporting novel, and the exciting start to a new series. "I will just say that, 24 hours after I started this book, I purchased its sequel, What Happens in Paradise, and I did not leave either book to be enjoyed by strangers at the end of my vacation." —Elisabeth Egan, New York Times. Ugh, this book was gut-wrenching. It's nearing Christmas time and I kept searching for holiday books and this one kept popping up. I thought it was a book about a girl who runs away on a holiday vacation to get away from Christmas.
This book is nothing like that. It's the story of a failed marriage - or at least one so full of lies and deceit that it's hard to even read it. The whole book is Irene being gutted over and over as she uncovers a new lie. Her sons have to roll through it with her as they try to figure out who their father was and what on earth he was doing. It's all just so awful and not my kind of story at all. ( )
