The author expanded a little on the few science fiction elements of the story, and yet left as mysteries who the Missing were/are and exactly what happened with the 4 races who came to the planet long ago and put the “moon” in place. The main story, revolving around Nona, her fellow novices/sisters, and the world around them, was action-packed, thrilling, and at times, heart-wrenching. This book (and series) is about power, courage, and loyalty. Above all, it is about friendship—with others and with oneself. A perfect conclusion to a remarkable trilogy. I enjoyed every page of this series. My only complaint is the amount of time we skip over in order to move the story along. Honestly? This series could have been several books longer in order to fully develop the characters and storylines, and any regret I have is centered on that fact. The characters I've grown to love finally meet their destinies. The villians I've learned to hate? Well... you'll have to read it to discover their fate! 4.5/5 stars for the series as a whole. Definitely don't pass it up! An excellent read! A brilliant ending to a really enjoyable trilogy. It was a slow start in Red Sister, some might even say "tedious" in those early pages, but for those who stick with it you'll be rewarded well for your reading efforts as the whole trilogy has been a good, slow crescendo all the way to the end, and it's an end that doesn't disappoint at all. If you like really good fantasy with a little sci-fi thrown in then these books will not to disappoint. It's big, a lot of pages, but it's well worth all the hours. Best of all, when you get to the end of the Kindle version you'll find out that it doesn't end there. For all us Abeth fans, Mark has just begun a new trilogy with The Girl and the Stars. I am so looking forward to more from this ice world. Ten out of ten. no reviews | add a review

Let me tell you first, that as I'm writing this review, I'm moping in front of my laptop. I'm supposed to be working, but here I am, sad that to say goodbye to these characters. It's saying goodbye to a friend that you might not see for a while. With that being said, here's my review:
• The ending is just perfect for me. It's bittersweet, like how endings should be. No crazy cliff hanger here and I felt like all my concerns about the characters were addressed.
•I think what's happening in Abeth is timely. It makes me think that something similar might happen to us in the future. It might not be us living in a thin line in the equator and the Earth freezing to death but, I think you get my point. (Maybe something similar to The Broken Empire's world?)
• I really like how the book presented a very powerful weapon can not only be used for destruction but as a leverage for peace as well.
• One thing that I really appreciate this series for is the LGBTQ representation. It felt natural, it didn't feel like it was in the narrative just for the sake of it, or that it was shoved down my throat at every opportunity.
• Nona's a very good example of not letting a broken world corrupt you. A lot of tragic things happen to Nona and those around her, but that hasn't stopped her from being who she is and staying true to her core values
• By forgiving others you also forgive yourself. Nona learned that vengeance can be hollow and that by forgiving, she also forgave herself for not being able to save all of her friends. ( )
