Hubb Community Kitchen was created after the Grenville fire to give the women a place to cook and to meet together. Their cookbook, Together : Our Community Kitchen was written at the suggestion of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex to fund opening more days a week. So the first thing you get from buying this book is the feeling that you are contributing to a good cause. But that is not all. I'm drooling over Moroccan yeast risen pancakes served with a mixture of almond butter, honey and argan oil. (I checked online. Our local supermarket sells argan oil.) There are recipes from many different countries. Many, even most of the recipes are vegetarian. Each woman trying to cook dishes that the other women will enjoy and will feel able to eat. The Lebanese vegetable lasagna intrigues me. Yoghurt, tahini, feta instead of tomato sauce. Got to try the carrot and onion chapatis soon. There are deserts and drinks as well, of course. no reviews | add a review

In the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire in London, a group of local women gathered together to cook fresh food for their families and neighbors. Over the chatter and aromas of the kitchen they discovered the power of cooking and eating together to create connections, restore hope and normalcy, and provide a sense of home. This was the start of the Hubb Community Kitchen. This is the storybook of this West London community, showcasing over 50 delicious recipes from the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen and including a foreword by HRH The Duchess of Sussex. The women invite you to make their favorite simple dishes -- many handed down over generations -- from the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Eastern Mediterranean for you and your loved ones. Every dish tells a story of history, culture and family, and each has been developed to use few ingredients and easy methods so that anyone can cook these personal recipes, including Green Chilli and Avocado Dip, Coconut Chicken Curry, Eggplant Masala, Persian Chicken with Barberry Rice, Caramelized Plum Upside-Down Cake, Spiced Mint Tea and lots more. This charity cookbook is a homage to life, friendship and togetherness. No library descriptions found. |

"Together: Our Community Cookbook" is pretty great. I loved all of the color photos that accompanied the recipes, the foreword by HRH The Duchess of Sussex, and also the community members who added little personal anecdote before getting into the recipes. It made it seem as if a friend is sharing a recipe with you.
This cookbook is divided into the following: Foreword; Introduction; Breakfasts; Snacks, Sharing Plates and Dips; Lunches and Dinners; Salads and Sides; Desserts and Drinks; Index; The Royal Foundation; Cooking in the Community/Recipe Notes; and Acknowledgements.
Not going to lie, I don't recall one cookbook I currently own that gets into breakfasts. That is seriously my favorite meal of the day. Most of the recipes I have for breakfasts I just find on Pinterest. I do own Martha Stewart's one cookbook that gets into the type of meals that you can make depending on your cookware (crockpot, dutch oven, cast iron skillet, etc.) The first thing I am going to try though is the simple chocolate cake recipe. I really want something like this to enjoy over winter with a nice cup of coffee. ( )
