Cute reflection on siblings: best equipped to get under your skin, always there for you. ( ) The Sisters Club by Megan McDonald is a chaotic book that follows the life of three sisters. This book is the first of a trilogy. In this book Alex, the oldest, Stevie, the middle child, and Joey the youngest all start a club that is meant only for sisters. They think this will be a great way to bond. As they go through crazy fights over stolen sweaters, to putting marshmallows between their toes, to making a macaroni disaster this book was very entertaining. It portrays the lives of sisters in a very realistic way. “This book covered all the bases of being a sister: the fighting, the love, the jealousy. It was perfect!” Says reader Erin Thomas. One of the things that made this book so enjoyable was the type of writing McDonald used. Through the story she would write advice columns or little play scripts to keep you interested. With every page you turned you would find a new surprise waiting for you. I think overall this book was well written and detailed. I would recommend this for middle schoolers because there is some language. If I could describe this book in one word it would be “funny” because of all the fights and plays they have. I would definitely read this book again because it was an awesome book. The Sisters Club by Megan McDonald is a very humorous and sweet tale. It tells the story of three sisters: the oldest Alex, the middle child Stevie, and the youngest Joey. All of the sisters are very different. Alex is almost 13 and loves acting and a local boy. Stevie is 10-years-old and is "the glue" of the family. She always tries to make things better. Finally there is 8-year-old Joey. Sweet yet mischievious Joey loves homework, writing in her journal, and pioneers. The three sisters engage in typical fights about parental affection and missing items like nailpolish and sweaters. Yet they also share sweet and tender times where they play the "remembering game" and have Sister's Club meetings with a sock monkey puppet. This is the first book in a series. The other titles include The Rule of Three and Cloudy with a Chance of Boys. no reviews | add a review

Meet the Sisters Club: twelve-year-old Alex, aspiring actress and born drama queen; eight-year-old Joey, homework lover and pioneer wannabe; and smack in the middle, ten-year-old Stevie, the glue that holds them together — through dinner disasters, disputes over stolen lucky sweaters, and Alex's going gaga over her leading man. Playfully weaving Stevie's narration with Alex's scripts, Joey's notebook entries, and hilarious elements such as "How to Swear in Shakespeare" and "Dear Sock Monkey" letters, this hugely engaging novel showcases Megan McDonald's ear for dialogue, comic timing, and insight into the ever-changing dynamics of sisterhood.
