I went from liking it to not liking it back to liking it again. I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about it so I’m just rating it 4 stars for now. ( ) "All Your Twisted Secrets" was a compelling YA mystery that kept me engaged until the end. The story moved from the present where six are trapped in a room with a bomb and a clock ticking down to zero, to the past giving different moments over the past year. While the present chapters were nail-biting as the teens try to decide who is going to die within the hour, I also found the flashback chapters interesting as they gave a good insight into the various characters, the relationships between them and what they did to end up in the situation they find themselves in. Bullying, suicide, drugs, peer pressure, ambitions and parental expectations were all big themes throughout the novel and each character had been affected by at least one of them. The characters were fairly stereotypical and were all flawed. Each of them had done things they shouldn't have but some were nicer than others, especially Diego, who was my favourite. I was unsurprised when the person who had set the trap was revealed. I had already worked out who it was, but I still found "All Your Twisted Secrets" a fun thriller with many twists and secrets. A great debut. This was a gripping and suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Diana Urban masterfully weaves a tale of secrets, betrayal, and unexpected twists that will leave readers guessing until the very end. The story follows a group of six high school students who find themselves trapped in a locked room with a bomb and a syringe of poison. As the clock ticks and tensions rise, the characters are forced to confront their darkest secrets and make impossible choices. Urban’s writing is fast-paced and atmospheric, creating a sense of urgency and unease throughout the book. The characters are well-developed and complex, each with their own motivations and secrets. I found myself deeply invested in their fates and constantly questioning who could be trusted. What sets the book apart is its clever and unpredictable plot. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Urban threw in a twist that left me reeling. The suspense and mystery kept me turning the pages, eager to uncover the truth behind the characters’ secrets. While the book does contain elements of violence and intense situations, it is handled with sensitivity and never feels gratuitous. Urban strikes a balance between thrilling suspense and emotional depth, making it a compelling read for fans of psychological thrillers. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT! - GRIPPING STORY - WONDERFUL PREMISE - HIGHLY ALLURING CHARACTERS - ALTERNATES BETWEEN THE EVENTS THAT LEAD TO THE CURRENT SITUATION AND THE CURRENT SITUATION (GOOD NARRATIVE) - AMAZING FOR A DEBUT NOVEL - APPEALS TO SUICIDE PREVENTION BY NOTICING RED FLAGS WHAT I DID NOT FANCY! - GAVE ME A LOT OF TRULY DEVIOUS VIBES WITH THE NARRATIVE AND THE AGE GROUP OF THE CHARACTERS - NOT SO SURE IF I AM SATISFIED WITH THE ENDING (IT WAS VERY MATURE AND WELL THOUGHT OUT BUT I WOULD HAVE LIKED A LITTLE MORE INSIGHTS INTO THE AFTERMATH) SPOILER. the end was bad. they all acted like turning herself in was a big confidence character thing and it made her a good person but it did not she literally killed someone. and even the idea that it would have been okay if no one died Is crazy. that's a horrible thing to do in the first place and she is clinically insane no reviews | add a review

HTML: A thrilling debut, reminiscent of new fan favorites like One of Us Is Lying and the beloved classics by Agatha Christie, that will leave readers guessing until the explosive ending. "Welcome to dinner, and again, congratulations on being selected. Now you must do the selecting." What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it's a trap. Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syringe filled with poison, and a note saying they have an hour to pick someone to kill...or else everyone dies. Amber Prescott is determined to get her classmates and herself out of the room alive, but that might be easier said than done. No one knows how they're all connected or who would want them dead. As they retrace the events over the past year that might have triggered their captor's ultimatum, it becomes clear that everyone is hiding something. And with the clock ticking down, confusion turns into fear, and fear morphs into panic as they race to answer the biggest question: Who will they choose to die? .No library descriptions found. |
