Ich traf einen Fremden aus einem antiken Land, der sagte:
Zwei große, rumpflose Beine aus Stein stehen in der Wüste
...Nicht weit davon im Sand liegt halbvergraben ein zerbro-
chenes Gesicht, dessen Schein, mit verzogenen Lippen und
kalt befehlend der Wärme entbehrend, kündet, daß der
Künstler wohl in Gesichtern zu lesen verstand. Sie haben im-
mer noch überlebt, sind der Leblosigkeit eingebrannt. Die
Hand, die sie verhöhnte, das Herz, sich nährend.
Und auf dem Sockel stehen Worte, nur wenige:
"Mein Name ist Ozymandias, König der Könige.
Seht auf meine Taten, Ihr Mächtigen, und verzweifelt!"
Nichts sonst blieb erhalten. Nur rund um diesen Verfall
der kolossalen Ruine erstreckt sich rund um die Welt
der einsame, ebene und nackte Sand nach überall.
