Twins are a bit of mystery to me. Not being one myself, I found the first description of how they lean together and know each other so well so interesting. But I can't even imagine the competition. Our MC is Iris, who is going to Thailand to take a boat back to her twin's husband's family. Because their son is at an international hospital sick. But right off the bat, this trip is not what was promise. And the trip will never stay on plan, not the whole ride. When the boat reaches shore again, the story and the drama and the twists an turns begin. It was a great mystery and one that I loved thinking up horrible awful turns (and being right! ha!) It was dark and I loved it! This Australian thriller is about twins swapping places, but not in a fun way. All the characters in this book are despicable, shallow, or just plain stupid. There were a few twists, but for the most part, the plot was predictable and disappointing. I’m only giving it three stars for the twist at the end, but I mostly couldn’t wait to finish it. (contains spoilers) I really, really enjoyed this book! Amazing twist that I guessed right before it was revealed, but the author set it up nicely with enough clues so you can figure it out. The little boy, Tarquin, gave away some amazing clues. I'd call this like a thriller beach read. It was quick and fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I love that Summer, the perfect twin, ended up really being the bad twin. And I just knew in the end, it was her that had killed Iris. But again, I think it was obvious and the author did a great job of not dragging it out. You find out quickly, so I don't think that was meant to be a big twist. Just an overall a great story! I do feel like I probably should've figured out the end before I did, with Summer giving Iris all the information. But again, I thought Iris was the bad twin. Anyway, great little thriller beach read that I listened to in just a couple of days. This book was a dream! I can't believe I let it sit on my tbr list for so long. The cast of children were well developed and raw characters. They all carried their experiences in a way that shaped their personalities. So well done, and believable. These kids are the outcasts that we know, the people that spend their life searching for the place they belong. The lgbtqia reps were flawless, they flowed into the story seemlessly. I was not expecting the murder mystery at all, and did not pick the correct culprit either. The final twists were well laid out, and crumbs were dropped now that I look back at the story, I just didn't catch them. And finally, all the social commentary was spot on. It really shined light on our twisted view of raising children, and more. If you love [b:The Ten Thousand Doors of January|43521657|The Ten Thousand Doors of January|Alix E. Has the same whimsical fantasy air about it. I can't wait to read the next in series. no reviews | add a review

Written with the chilling, twisty suspense of The Wife Between Us and Something in the Water, a seductive debut thriller about greed, lust, secrets, and deadly lies involving identical twin sisters. Twin sisters Iris and Summer are startlingly alike, but beyond what the eye can see lies a darkness that sets them apart. Cynical and insecure, Iris has long been envious of Summer's seemingly never-ending good fortune, including her perfect husband Adam. Called to Thailand to help her sister sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, Iris nurtures her own secret hopes for what might happen on the journey. But when she unexpectedly finds herself alone in the middle of the Indian Ocean, everything changes. When she makes it to land, Iris allows herself to be swept up by Adam, who assumes that she is Summer. Iris recklessly goes along with his mistake. Not only does she finally have the golden life she's always envied, with her sister gone, she's one step closer to the hundred-million-dollar inheritance left by her manipulative father. All Iris has to do is be the first of his seven children to produce an heir. Iris's "new" life lurches between glamorous dream and paranoid nightmare. On the edge of being exposed, how far will she go to ensure no one discovers the truth? And just what did happen to Summer on the yacht? Only Iris knows . . . No library descriptions found. |

THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR is an addictive thriller/family drama filled with characters with the worst qualities, but I couldn’t stop reading. What a vicious, tangled web they got themselves into. Sometimes it’s difficult to make unlikable characters compelling, but the author succeeded here. I also loved the settings in this book, including a yacht in the Indian Ocean sailing to the Seychelles. Absolutely gorgeous, but also the perfect spot for something sinister. Read this for an exciting summery escape. ( )
