Dr. Jackie Darling Lee is a NASA engineer whose social life has been nonexistent until she meets and takes home a drunken Rose from her birthday party where she has been ditched by her friends. Trish, the bartender helps and, in that one night, Jackie makes two new friends. Jackie had noticed Flynn at the birthday party but didn't know he was Rose's brother until days later when he takes her out on their first date. Flynn is captivated by Jackie's beauty, humor, and especially her brain and it isn't long before they are in bed together, but Flynn has a secret he has been keeping from Jackie; one that may derail their relationship before it even gets off the ground. Space Junk: Houston We Have a Hottie is a great beginning to the Space series and comes as a complete surprise. The book, written in the dual perspectives of Jackie and Flynn, is charming, witty, and wildly entertaining despite its short length. Even though more time could have been spent building the relationship between the two characters, there is still plenty of plot that develops their connection. Several things elevate this book above the everyday romance; one is the character of Jackie and her rather significant intelligence. Another is the research that must have gone into the story, adding details that make events seem very realistic. Even though the "space" puns become a little annoying in their overuse, overall, Space Junk: Houston We Have a Hottie is a quick, fun romance that is an extremely enjoyable read. 4 1/2 stars. NASA engineer Dr. Jackie Darling Lee is a genius about many things...the male species is not one of them (despite the many cowboy romances she reads). Then a little friendly blackmail from a co-worker has Jackie walking into a Texas saloon ready to initiate "Operation Social Life". After making friends with her waitress and helping a drunk country beauty get home safely, she thinks she's off to a good start. Flynn West left his family's rich ranching life behind after discovering his girlfriend's gold digging ways. Now he specializes in vintage muscle car restorations in his own shop in Houston. He's taken women off his radar, until a wild-haired blonde drags his drunk little sister through his front door. The moment he sees those thick, black-framed glasses on that slender nose, Flynn's captivated. Ignitions ignite, and not just from Flynn's skills at hot-wiring cars. But in the midst of the International Space Station being threatened and old flames reappearing, can Jackie and Flynn let go of old hang-ups long enough to reach the end of their happily ever after countdown? Or will it be a failure to launch? No library descriptions found. |

Jackie is a brilliant NASA engineer but is clueless about men and is sometimes awkward in social settings. Hence her co-worker blackmailing her into "Operation Social Life". Flynn specializes in restoring vintage muscle cars in his own shop but comes from a very rich ranching family.
Things start off rocky with Flynn basically yelling at Jackie and throwing her out of his home, but soon engines are firing on all four cylinders. Not everything cruises along smoothly, there are twists and turns in their relationship along the way. The characters were well written and had good growth/development.
I listened to the audiobook and there were a few times when Flynn called Jackie "Darlin'" that I thought a bit cheesy (I don't mind some cheese every now and then though). And, the thing with Flynn's brother made me do a double take.
There was spice, as to be expected from a book cover like that! It was well written and didn't detract from the plot or growth of the characters. On my pepper scale I would give it a 5 pepper: ( )
