Early Friends belonging to the first generation of Quakers consistently refused to have their portraits drawn or painted. Friends in later generations sometimes had silhouettes made. This album of silhouettes of Quakers from 1750-1850 is accompanied by short biographical profiles.

A short history of silhouette art, and its acceptability to early Quakers who did not countenance portraiture. Included with the cuttings are brief biographical sketches.
