This was a 3, but the second half was so good, so personal and deep, that it just climbed up to 3.5. Those poems are much more raw and I related to some things. ( ) A mediocre collection of poems that had promise but became repetitive and ultimately forgettable. Halsey may be a good recording artist though that doesn't equate to being a good poet. M=any of the themes read like a autobiography of a borderline personality disorder individual; complete with wandering passages about not knowing who she is, being treated badly and the tendency to keep going back. Some of the poems are not bad and this is why I give it a very average ** 3/4 Raw and honest commentary on mental health, surviving abuse and assault, being a woman in a white misogynist society, and classism. I can relate to much of what she conveys and appreciate her candor and vulnerability as a woman and person of color talking about what matters. Her work like Kaur’s reaches me in ways the “classic” male poets never could. no reviews | add a review
