I didn’t like was how June would take back Mick back after how many times he had cheated on her if I was in her shoes and the person who supposed to spend the rest of his life me and he cheated on me there wouldn’t be any second chances cause once you cheat they are going to do it again. But the only thing I did like was the relationship between Nina, Jay, HUD and Kit the only reason i gave this a 2 stars is because of the cheat in which it didn’t need in the book and this author should have known better then write about that. How is that ok with the authors who puts cheating in their books is a no for me since had happened to me. “Just because it is in Malibu's nature to burn, so was it in one particular person's nature to set fire and walk away.” I loved this one. This one just absolutely spoke to my soul. As parents, we mess up. Man oh man, if only there were a manual. But there isn't so we all mess up. This is the story about some kids who grew up - it's 4 of them: Nina, Hud, Jay and Kit. Their mom helped raise them - and you learn her story through out the first half. And then you read about them now, grown. That is the other part of the story. They have been through a lot and have struggled trying to define who they are - both in their hierarchy and in their life in the world. And this is one fateful night where they will all change and realize just a few new things of themselves. It's a strange night and reading it with so many teases and hints ahead of time made the anticipation build. I loved how this played out, all the things they discovered and realized and came in to their own. And I love this author's writing. I loved the profound sentences that spoke loud and true. But I also loved the quiet ones like saying alcoholism was a disease with many faces and some of the beautiful. It's so so true and so moving. I just love this author and her stories. I'll definitely keep auto-buying her books! no reviews | add a review

High drama at the beach, starring four sexy, surfing siblings and their deadbeat, famous-crooner dad.”—People ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The Washington Post, Time, Marie Claire, PopSugar, Parade, Teen Vogue, Self, She Reads Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, the family drama that ensues will change their lives forever. Malibu: August 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over—especially as the offspring of the legendary singer Mick Riva. The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud—because it is long past time for him to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth. Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there. And Kit has a couple secrets of her own—including a guest she invited without consulting anyone. By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come rising to the surface. Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind.
