First words
When Julia woke from an uneven sleep, she realised immediately that today was different.
The clambering of the roof tiles had stopped, the rumbling of the nearby sea all but gone.
For the last two days, it had rained as if the gods wanted to wipe the entire coast into the sea. Julia had hid her skinny, ten year old body under her bed as the thunder roared in the sky, and the downpour lashed the roof tiles above. Slaves were running around, putting vases and bowls wherever there was a leak, and cowering. Especially cowering.
Julia jumped out of bed and ran for her bedroom door. Just as she reached the handle, she remembered the statue next to her bed. Julia spun around and shoved the statue into her special made sleeve pocket. With all the energy of a healthy ten year old, she ran outside the villa and blinked at the clear blue sky. The storm had broken.
