Overall pretty ok ( ) I'm not a huge Harley fan, but this was actually a fairly entertaining anthology of short stories until it got bogged down in several holiday-themed tales in the closing stretch. Christmas in June just wasn't working for me. It didn't help that some creators tossed in a lot of unnamed and unexplained supporting characters who will be unfamiliar to anyone who isn't reading Harley's ongoing comic series. The best tales focused on Harley or Harley and Poison Ivy. Also, DC might as well have called this book Harley Quinn Black + White + Red + Gray Wash because they went way overboard on that effect. Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red is an anthology series that DC originally published in 17 chapters online. It collects stories written by Stjepan Šejić, Mirka Andolfo, Saladin Ahmed, Tim Seeley, Riley Rossmo, Katana Collins & Sean Murphy, Erica Henderson, Daniel Kibblesmith, Joe Quinones, Dani, Simon Spurrier, Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, Patrick Schumacker, Jordie Bellaire, Sam Humphries, Frank Tieri, Liz Erickson, David Mandel, and Paul Dini with art by Stjepan Šejić, Mirka Andolfo, Javier Rodriguez, Juan Ferreyra, Riley Rossmo, Matteo Scalera, Erica Henderson, Marguerite Sauvage, Joe Quinones, Dani, Otto Schmidt, Chad Hardin, Eleonora Carlini, Greg Smallwood, Stephen Byrne, Tom Fowler, Tom Derenick, Adam Hughes, and Kevin Altieri, and colors by Enrica Eren Angiolini and Brian Reber. The stories each take place in their own continuity, though some – like those by Stjepan Šejić, Frank Tieri, Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, or Sam Humphries – reference elements of stories the authors previously wrote for DC’s Black Label or the New 52/DC Rebirth/DC Universe continuity. The stories capture the essence of Harley and are each brilliant works in the manner of Batman: Black & White, though with a twist becoming of the Clown Princess of Crime. As the stories were originally serialized, they work best when read independently of each other rather than looking for a connection greater than their color palette. A nice collection for the Harley Quinn fan! no reviews | add a review
