"When Billy Summers was twelve years old, He shot and killed his mother's boyfriend after he kicked Billy's sister to death. At 17, he enlisted in the army. At 18, he was a sniper in Iraq and involved in the deadly battle to recapture Fallujah. For nearly twenty years, he's worked as a paid assassin. He's a good guy in a bad job, and he wants out.

Wonderful Reading! One of its best book, maybe the best in the non paranormal category of his career! ( )

Another great story by the master story teller. Could not put it down. The main character is complex; I loved him and hated him at the same time. And for the first time, Mr. King knew how to end a book. ( )

“is killing for honor better than killing for money? Probably not, but that won’t stop him.”

Absolutely stunning. Billy is a hired murderer. He kills bad guys and has been making quite a bit of money at it. He's finally ready for this to be his last hit. That's where our story starts, him getting the details and trying to decide if he'll take the new job.

The story is compelling. I was hooked as soon as I started. Billy is such a fascinating character. He has his unique Stephen King syle of not being too good or too awful, just perfectly human. He cycles through scenarios and ideas and thoughts so similar to my thinking that he was easy to love (even though he kills people. I mean, he only kills the bad guys, right?).

I loved the other characters that joined the story. The families he got to spend time with, the young girl he finds one night and his longtime friend. I also loved his war stories and his previous friends, even his sister. There is just so much that is human about Billy that it's hard not to be completely wrapped up in his story. The ending broke my heart and put it back together. This one was so good.

I also did this one as an audio and it was phenomenal.

First words
Billy Summers sits in the hotel lobby, waiting for his ride. It's Friday noon. Although he's reading a digest-sized comic book called Archie's Pals 'n' Gals, he's thinking about Émile Zola, and Zola's third novel, his breakthrough, Thérèse Raquin.
