Un advocat mor assassinat a trets a plena llum del dia i s'inicia així una onada de crims que hauran d'investigar els policies João da Luz i Zé Coelho. El primer també dedica les hores lliures a intentar trobar qui és el Jack l'Esbudellador de Lisboa, un conegut assassí de prostitutes dels anys 1990. Amb aquesta obra Bennasar ajunta les seves dues passions: la novel·la negra i Lisboa, a més a més de fer un homenatge a Roberto Bolaño.
