Great follow up to the first book with this character. I just love spunky Katie. We meet up with her again at the end of the the summer. While she is having fun with her new skateboarding friends and being an official superhero sidekick, things start to go wrong. Moustress is being blames for crimes she didn't commit and she is having trouble with her old friends. Katie sets out to find the real villain and depends once again on the usual 217 cats in the story. ( )

Those who liked the first volume will undoubtedly like this one as well. My only quibble is the fact that near the end of the book the plot jumps around like she was running out of pages and needed to hurry things along. My daughters loved this book and are hoping volume three is available soon. ( )

While I very much enjoyed the first book in this series as did my 10 yr old daughter, I didn't like this one as much. My 10 yr old enjoyed it because she loves Katie the Catsitter and thinks she's super funny and she also loved the cats and all their names and what they could do to help with solving crimes. I thought it was cute and fun with the cats and with Katie officially being a superhero sidekick in this one. It was about par for the course with Katie's best friend situation where she and Beth had spent the summer apart and grown in different ways so they changed. So, of course, their friendship also had to change with Beth having a boyfriend. It illustrates some good topics and things that friends have to learn to deal with and how things can change as you grow up and go in different directions than your friends with your life. This has good potential for further installments in this world and can be helpful to be used with kids when discussing some topics and such. The illustrations and art in this graphic novel are very well done also.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children's/Random House Books for Young Readers for letting me read and review this graphic novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ( )

Summer ends, and Katie's best friend Bethany (now Beth) returns from camp - with a boyfriend. Katie isn't ready for these changes, or for the sudden obsession with new superhero Stainless Steel, who usurps Eastern Screech's top spot. Katie is eager to be the Mousetress' sidekick, but the Mousetress seems suddenly reluctant to go back to her "protests" after being caught. (And, she cares more about animal welfare than social media popularity contests.) However, when Eastern Screech frames the Mousetress, and then Stainless Steel, for crimes they didn't commit, Katie and the cats help lead the charge.

Fun, action-packed, and superhero antics are balanced with typical growing pains, like navigating friendships and friends' relationships. Katie's mom is empathetic and down-to-earth while remaining in parent mode rather than friend mode.

Quotes

"Life is a lot harder if you spend time worrying what other people think of you." (Mousetress to Katie, 28)

"I don't believe in violence, especially when it's so easy to outsmart villains instead." (Mousetress to Katie, 133)

"I thought if I kept pretending I was okay I'd be okay." (Mousetress to Katie, 162) ( )

A fun sequel, if you enjoyed the first one, you’ll like this one well enough, too.

The friendship drama led to a couple decent emotional moments although that situation wrapped up easier than I would have preferred, but to be fair, deep emotion and realistic pacing of that deep emotion isn’t what this series is aiming for anyway, it’s more about quirks, humor, and a light take on the world of super heroes, all of which this does deliver, along with super smart cats.
