Loading... Rainby Joe Hill, David M. Booher (Author)This is an excellent graphic novel based upon a novella by Joe Hill. When an unexpected storm brings a rain of solid needles rather than water, chaos and death follow. As society struggles to maintain order, Honeysuckle Speck struggles to process her own personal grief. Booher adapts Hill's work into a piece that resonates on many levels. There is a definite climate change theme as well as some less than subtle commentary on the great, orange idiot that was our last president. Most intriguing is that Honeysuckle is a lesbian. While it is an important aspect of the story, this is not an LGBTQ story. This is how you write an inclusive book. This is my first experience with Zoe Thorogood's artwork. Excellent> ( ) An extended study in bury your gays/dead lesbian syndrome. Better we sup on their grief than revel in their happiness, says Joe. The dreary woe-is-me narration drags down a fairly generic horror road trip, and I could not care less about the twist ending. Such a shame to waste Zoe Thorogood's art on such a wholly unnecessary story. |
