The main character started just acting off the wall (in my opinion) for what her job is. However, I got a custom edition from Once Upon a Book Club (custom dust cover, foiling, page edging design) so I'll still keep it on my shelf. Probably won't read it again though. ( ) Wow, this was an amazing psychological thriller. Det. Elise Sutton is married with 2 small daughters. Life is good, until she is shopping and hears gunshots. She shoots the gunman who was aiming at another man - the tall man. Now, the dead man haunts her and the tall man is stalking Elise. Elise has taught a class talking about mistakes that killers make that lead to them being caught. It seems that the tall man has studied her lessons and is using that against her. Elise knows that until she kills the tall man, she and her family will not be safe. Chilling. Cold case detective Elise Sutton is shopping for towels for her daughters at a big box store when gunfire breaks out. She comes upon the shooter who has a victim in sight. To save his life, she must kill the shooter and her life is forever changed. She has to cope with guilt, anxiety, and the mysterious and scary man whose life she saved. She also finds that her online courses where she teaches lessons learned from past crimes comes back to haunt her. An alternate (but perhaps related!) storyline involves the discovery of a burned body in a hunting cabin. A psychological thriller with an intriguing plot, I thought some of the mental deliberations tedious and frequently found myself skimming the text. A few of the actions and behaviors strained credulity a bit. Yet, I found the book to be a satisfying, enjoyable read. Trigger warning: stalking behavior. HTML: "Absolutely splendid storytelling, a book to entertain, to immerse, and to challenge." —A. J. Finn, New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window She saved his life. Now he'll never let her go. Detective Elise Sutton is drawn to cold cases. Each crime is a puzzle to solve, pulled from the past. Elise looks for cracks in the surface and has become an expert on how murderers slip up and give themselves away. She has dedicated her life to creating a sense of order, at work with her ex-marine partner; at home with her husband and two young daughters; and within, battling her own demons. Elise has everything under control, until one afternoon, when she walks into a department store and is forced to make a terrible choice: to save one life, she will have to take another. Elise is hailed as a hero, but she doesn't feel like one. Steeped in guilt, and on a leave of absence from work, she's numb, even to her husband and daughters, until she connects with Wade Austin, the tall man whose life she saved. But Elise soon realizes that he isn't who he says he is. In fact, Wade Austin isn't even his real name. The tall man is a ghost, one who will set off a terrifying game of cat and mouse, threatening Elise and the people she loves most. .No library descriptions found. |
