Who in this day and age doesn't know you need a good diet, sleep, exercise and NATURE RELATIONSHIPS. Most of this is common sense in my opinion, go figure. Americans would read this book in search of the magical holy grail but will encounter what they already know, however, this time they will be facts. Even if Americans know what to do to change the situation, the story will continue to be the same. Nowadays parks and nature are an hour away from home or more. It's very inconvenient, even farmers might not be able to be near a waterfall. Waterfalls release negative ions which can benefit the body. Do farmers live longer just because they are in Nature? Or is their meat diet and isolation contributing to dying in their 80s. 80s is already considered a long life here in America. I have another problem, summer only last 2 months here in Canada, it's not nearly enough. The nature of winter is hibernation, and it's solution is adaptability. Even being expose to the cold will eventually change my genetics. People in blue zones as the book calls it, are naturally friendly and their peers reciprocate. But believe it or not most people I know, including myself find it hard to make friends. I wouldn't be surprise if 50% of the population in the north were introverted. You cannot open up if you don't trust your environment, if you don’t feel safe because of the traumatic upbringing. This book does not bring hope to that. Here is what I think hope is, forgiving life and your parents and bringing light and kindness to the world, honor your father and mother and your days will be extended, I will go as step further and say honor the journey every one is going through, even your enemies. You won’t find fault, and the smile that was lost will return. Want to live a better and longer life? Part 1 is very technical —lots of medical jargon and acronyms making this a challenging read. I just accepted what the author wrote was serious. Once he gets into the recommendations about how to live longer, it’s full of convincing anecdotes. I’m not young enough for this book but some anecdotes are applicable—something is better than nothing. So if you need convincing, this book is a good reminder to exercise and lose weight. He does offer a lot of specifics, but some are medical-related and out of reach for most of us. The thing that surprised me most about this book is how well it is read by the author - that was a pleasant surprise, as so often I wish the author did not read their own work. Outlive is a fascinating, informative examination of how to live to maximise good health with longevity being the goal. It's quite detailed medically and yet I was often amazed how Attia managed to explain the specialised knowledge so basically. I have to agree with the consensus below that Outlive has motivated me to live better, physiologically - and describing exercise, however little, as the most potent ingredient in longevity, jumped out at me too.
"Outlive" delves into the science behind longevity, providing valuable insights into the factors that contribute to a longer and healthier life. The narrator's engaging voice and clear delivery made it easy to absorb the wealth of information presented in the book.....
Drawing on the latest science and challenging mainstream medicine, a visionary physician and leading longevity expert presents a well-founded strategic and tactical approach to extending lifespan while also improving physical, cognitive, and emotional health. No library descriptions found. |
