It was good at first, and the plot was okay, but later on the book started to get boring, and I feel like the book was dragged on a little bit too long to get to the plot twist. I also think that the "Today is Eddie's Birthday" pages were random and kind of pointless. ( ) It was okay, had to read for school. I wish we knew more about what happened to the little girl. I was shook when we found out who the 5th person was. I really liked the line that was something like "Can I talk to God?" "Oh you can always do that." I'm not sure if that's correct its just off my memory but I thought that was really cute and very true. Overall I liked the book but wouldn't read again and I would maybe recommend.

But that would do an injustice to a book with the genuine power to stir and comfort its readers. Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here?".
