I had sworn off westerns for a while, but I'm glad I came back. Hopefully, I can find the sequels to read, or at least read some of this author's other books. ( ) An absolutely amazing book! The vivid imagery brings the wilds of Wyoming to life! The characters are fabulous! Each of the four Collins sisters are unique in their own ways. Their sisterly bond is strong and steadfast. My favorite sister is Faith. She's daring, friendly, and not afraid to speak her mind! Riley- what a man! Courageous, compassionate, and a born leader! The love story between Riley and Juniper is sweet and romantic. "He would go to the ends of the earth if that's where Jupiter wanted to live. As long as she would have him." Riley and Juniper have experienced loss in their lives, but they find a way to pursue their futures. There is a bit of intrigue that adds depth to the story. I also liked the parts of the story that involved the Native Americans. The fun antics of a coyote pup are delightful! A definite must read! I was provided a copy of this book from Bethany House through Interviews and Reviews. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series. From the ending I really thought the next book was going to be about a different sister than it is, guess I will just have to wait longer! The cover of this book set me up for a enjoyable read and I was not disappointed. Rocky Mountain Rendezous has a nice pace, not to fast, and when it looks like you will hit a little lull give you just enough of a twist to keep the pace. Overall a nice relaxing read that does not take to much thought but still keeps you interested. The sisters are interesting characters and their devotion to each other is admirable. Its refreshing to read about a character who does not have a super tragic backstory, some sad bits yes but not over the top as CF seems to be falling into the trap of. The hero Rileys story is rather tragic but it is integral to the story of why such a good man has sequestered himself to a solitary trappers life. The time period and setting was enjoyable to read about. The scruffy mountain men who were both friend and enemy. I appreciate the author not making the Indians all waring bands but also hero's.... and from the ending possibly one sisters love interest in a future book? I look forward to that story as the personalities of the two would make for a very interesting story. When the Collins sisters lose their father and are now parentless they know that his dying wish must be the first thing they do before they can go on with their lives. What none of them would’ve guessed was the incredible journey to the Wyoming wilds would be truly life changing, and open their eyes to a whole new way of living. Twenty years ago, their father’s life was saved by a Peigan Blackfoot woman named Steps Right and he had sent a gift that he wanted to make sure she received. The sisters do not understand the importance of why their father wants them to find her, and hope that finding the Peigan woman will help them understand the full picture. It is this mystery of finding Steps Right and finding out her story that kept me reading, as there are so many things that it could be and this woman is the only one that has answers. The Wyoming wilds in mid-1800’s was a scary place in and of itself, but four women traveling alone was no ideal during this time period in general, which is why when they meet a mountain man named Riley Turner, he is truly a blessing in more ways than one. Riley’s character is perfection in my eyes, as he immediately feels a protectiveness over the sisters, and a connection to one sister in particular. He’s a strong presence and has such patience and skill that it was wonderful to watch him traverse the wilds, and help the Collins sisters speak to the various tribes in the region as they search for Steps Right. I loved all of the characters and their interactions with one another, especially the bond between the sisters, as well as the tribe members. Native Americans hold a special place in my heart, as that is part of my own heritage, and I liked seeing them depicted in a positive light. This was a wonderful escape and a beautiful story that I enjoyed immensely. *I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Juniper Collins and her sisters find themselves with an almost impossible mission to accomplish. They must find a Peigan Native American woman called Steps Right and return her turquoise bead necklace to her and ensure her gift of horses was received. This request, a wish of their father on his deathbed, is one they cannot deny. None of the sisters has ever heard of Steps Right or even knows if she is still living. However, they travel across the country in with a wagon train to begin their search. Once they arrive at the Rocky Mountain camp, they are left on their own to fend for shelter, food, and security. While the sisters would prefer to take care of themselves, mountaineer Riley Turner will not let these woman remain unprotected. Surrounded by hundreds of men in the Rocky mountain wilderness is not a way to test one's bravery or foolishness. When Riley learns that these women are here to fulfill a request of their late father, he cannot help but provide for them in any way he can. However, finding Steps Right is proving much more difficult and time consuming than the Collins sisters ever thought possible. Should the sisters stay in the wilderness to fulfill their mission, or should they return with the wagon train and the safety & security of the civilized East? This was a good book and I see that there is another in the series to come out! That will be nice to see what happens to each of the sisters, Riley, and the men in the camp. Thank you LibraryThing for the Early Reviewers copy! I look forward to the sequel and learning of the further adventures of the Collins sisters! no reviews | add a review

In 1837, Juniper Collins and her sisters are shocked by their father's deathbed request for them to return a special set of beads to a Piegan Blackfoot woman he credits with saving his life during his travels West. Together, the sisters set out for the trapper rendezvous to find the woman, but their mission turns more daunting when they come upon the mass of men and lodges spread out in the Green River Valley. Riley Turner came West to find peace and quiet and live off the land, but when four unprotected women arrive at the rendezvous, he feels compelled to help them and is more fascinated by Juniper than any other woman he's known. As their search brings only empty leads and dead ends, the sisters must decide whether to return East or stay in the mountains to continue looking—and that's if the mystery woman is even still alive. Is the risk to honor their father's last request worth the danger they find at every turn? No library descriptions found. |
