A Historical Fiction by Charles Dickens about an event I don't really know about but enjoyed reading it as I have most of Dickens works. There seems to have been an influence by Sir Walter Scott's writing style, which to have one of my favorite authors influence the other makes me happy. ( ) I don't know why this book isn't one of the more popular Dickens. As a Catholic I thought it a bit harsh to have him portray a devious Catholic as being behind much of the anti-Catholic sentiment and riots of the time, but I enjoyed Grip and thought the story had some of the most filmable elements of dickens. ...so do things pass away, like a tale that is told! (location 64782) The thoughts of worldly men are for ever regulated by a moral law of gravitation, which, like the physical one, holds them down to earth. HTML: Renowned storyteller Charles Dickens takes on the historical novel in Barnaby Rudge, a gripping fictionalized account of the anti-Catholicism turmoil that rocked England in the late eighteenth century. The novel pairs Dickens' social insights into the "anti-papist" riots of 1780 with the quirky, closely observed characters that have won him a loyal following the world over. .No library descriptions found. |
