Filmed in Iceland. Fantastic landscapes. The landscapes made the film meaningful and believeable. I do not remember that the original tale was set so late in time (500 AD) when Christianity was spreading. I was disturbed by this, but I think the writers felt it was part of the message. To me the story is about who is the worst monster: the man who made the monster or the monster himself. Gerlad Butler as Beowulf and Stellan Skarsgard (my favorite Danish actor) as the king of Daneland, we superb. Disturbing film, but you will not want to miss a single scene. I actually could not figure out what direction the film was moving in because I had preconceptions about the original work. Great film...the landscape. See it. ( )
