"Davi has done this all before. She's tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she's rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she's killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she's been defeated every time. This time? She's done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that's who she needs to be. It's Davi's turn to play on the winning side"--… (more)

I had high hopes for this based on the description and then I read the reviews and decided to pass on it. My cousin purchased it, so I borrowed it from my library so we could both read it and compare notes. She hasn't finished it yet, but for me it was 'meh'. It would have been helped immensely by more plot, characters with more depth, and less pop culture references. This is part of duology, but I have no urge to read part 2. ( )

This book exhibited a very particular type of overly clever, self aware - bordering on parody that honestly got a little tedious.

Also, surprise, it ends on a cliffhanger at 93% and there will be a sequel at some point. ( )

This is a funny, raunchy, violent romp through a fantasy world with a time-loop mechanic. Davi is a sarcastic, horny, and self-aware heroine, not without growth through her strange journey. I really enjoyed the cast of main characters as well as the setting. This is going to be a duology, so we don't have all the answers yet, but there is something different about the time-loop in this book that I'm eager to get the rest of the details on. I just really had a load of fun reading this book and I need the sequel immediately, please. ( )

I really wanted to like this more, but have learned that I really dislike footnotes in a fiction book. It was enough to sap anything I might have liked about the tale right out of my tiny heart. ( )

Davi has been trying to defeat the Dark Lord for thousands of lives; every time she fails, the situation resets. One time she decides to try something different, and become the Dark Lord instead. Lots of wisecracking and pop culture references even though Davi’s been transported to the fantasy realm for so long she says she doesn’t remember her life on Earth. I liked that she woke with skills she’d learned but not the body trained to use them. If you like flippancy and playing with D&D tropes, you might like this. ( )
