I never liked horse stories as a youth but then had never read one. I wanted to read this to see if my grandchildren might like it. I loved it so much that I'd like to read the whole series. And yes - the grandchildren will like them too. I like that they aren't terribly dated.

The Black and Alec are survivors of a plane crash that has left Alec with amnesia, and The Black on his own in the wilderness. Another good read by Walter Farley. ( )

It has been a long time since I read this book but I remember really enjoying it. The main Character loses him memory and the Black gets lost. Interesting how they still meet up and end up riding and racing. Lots of fun. :) ( )

Adventure stories are just that: adventure. They are stories that take you out into the jungle, deep into the desert, or out into the wild unknown. Adventure stories aren't based on reality, they are designed to pick you up onto their shoulders and race off with you into uncharted territory, make you feel the wind in your hair and the excitement in your heart, all without making you leave your chair. This is what Farley does so well. You pick up a book about the Black Stallion because you want to know what kind of trouble he and Alec are going to get out of this time or you want to live through another race of the century from a time when racing was the sport of the century. It doesn't matter that everything works out perfectly in the end, that's the beauty of the era the books came from. And in all honesty, does anyone ever feel this good about picking the one that came in second place? I think not. ( )

Book description
    THE BLACK STALLION GOES WILD!

When the Black Stallion savagely attacked another horse, Alec Ramsay realized what was wrong. Never fully tamed, the Black desperately needed more freedom and space than Alec's small farm could provide. So Alec and his horse headed out west to a huge ranch. But a terrible accident soon wrenched the two apart - leaving the Black free to claim the wild life he was born to!
    ----------------------------------

The Black Stallion suddenly broke out of his paddock, hurled forth a screaming challenge and attacked Satan, in an adjoining paddock.
Henry Dailey, the trainer, told Alec Ramsay "The Black's attack on Satan was the premeditated scheme of a murderer. Get smart, Alec, before he kills us all!"
Alec realized that the once wild stallion was restless from months of routine, so he took him on a plane bound for the West. there he would have acres and acres to roam. Little did Alec know that they were never to reach their destination, and that they would go separate ways before finding each other again...

But would Alec survive that meeting with a wild herd stallion?
