Written in the same style as Lemony Snicket and inspired by the story of Peter Pan, The Shadow Thief is a tween fantasy adventure that tells the story of Millipop Klompet, Ernest Perriclof and the town of Drabville who have had their shadows stolen by the mysterious Lord Aldor.

I wanted to like this more than I actually did. The fast pace the story begins with slowly withers away until it's crawling at a snail pace and I was just bored. The plot was thin and full of holes though and the story read like a hodgepodge of tween books. There's not much in the way of originality here. Although to be fair, what is?

I was kind of indifferent to Milli and Ernest themselves but I did like the strong friendship between them. The rest of the characters were okay. It's well written and younger fans will undoubtedly find much to like. Older fantasy fans though may struggle.

Loved the opening few pages however they set the expectations too high and unfortunately the book didn't live up to the same enjoyment as the beginning. Still a cute story with relatable characters and a fun adventure. ( )

This is an ok book considering it is written by a 13 year old. There is a lot of very flowery language but overall, the story flows quite well and I like the quirky author asides to the reader about the main characters. Milli and Ernest are friends in the unfortunate town of Drabville which aooears to be run by the pompous Mr. & Mrs Mayor. There are strict rukes on where to go, when you can go where and what you can wear, say and do, and no-one in the town seems to have any courage to stand up to them. It is as if they have lost something that makes them rebel against such stupid rules as what fruit you can eat and what colour your house could be painted. So when Milli & Ernest break the rules by having a look at an old house in the nearby woods, it is no surprise that the usual punsihment befalls them - a car pulls up in the middle of the night and takes them away. The 2 find themselves in a bizarre world of slavery for some and pampering for others, as see the true side of the Mayors who are under the spell of the evil wizard Lord Aldor. Can Ernest and Milli free the shadows and set free all the people who have been kidnapped for speaking up, or will they succumb to the Mayor's over the top pampering as their adopted children. Fun stuff in the line of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.
