Sad, hopeful and inspiring; 30 yo widow Holly is mourning her husband Gerry's death from brain cancer. Several months out from his death, her mother hands her a packet of letters from Gerry. Gerry always said he'd make her a list - and he did with a letter/month that she was to open on the 1st of each month - and follow what he told her to do. ( ) absolutely loved this book! I have learned, over the years, to read a book and then watch the movie if there is one. I can wholeheartedly say that the book completely outweighs the movie. I couldn't even finish the movie, as it seemed to have almost nothing in common with the book. Anyway, the book follows a woman who looses her husband to a brain tumor. Even though he is no longer with her in life, notes that he left behind help her to get through that first year without him and learn to live again. This book is written beautifully, it will make you laugh and cry. I am not a fan of chick-lit but as this is a favourite of a friend I thought I’d give it ago. Hmm.. there were things about the main character that really annoyed me. Her whole life revolved around a man. She had no investment in a career, had no hobbies and all her friends were those shared with her husband. The book was also incredibly dated - characters go to the library for internet access, smoking and excessive drinking are the norm and the females all tan on their holidays. There wasn’t much I liked about this book so I’m glad I only paid $1 for it at an op shop. Feel sure my next read will be better. no reviews | add a review
