Loading... P.S. I Love You (2004)by Cecelia AhernSad, hopeful and inspiring; 30 yo widow Holly is mourning her husband Gerry's death from brain cancer. Several months out from his death, her mother hands her a packet of letters from Gerry. Gerry always said he'd make her a list - and he did with a letter/month that she was to open on the 1st of each month - and follow what he told her to do. ( ) absolutely loved this book! I have learned, over the years, to read a book and then watch the movie if there is one. I can wholeheartedly say that the book completely outweighs the movie. I couldn't even finish the movie, as it seemed to have almost nothing in common with the book. Anyway, the book follows a woman who looses her husband to a brain tumor. Even though he is no longer with her in life, notes that he left behind help her to get through that first year without him and learn to live again. This book is written beautifully, it will make you laugh and cry. I am not a fan of chick-lit but as this is a favourite of a friend I thought I’d give it ago. Hmm.. there were things about the main character that really annoyed me. Her whole life revolved around a man. She had no investment in a career, had no hobbies and all her friends were those shared with her husband. The book was also incredibly dated - characters go to the library for internet access, smoking and excessive drinking are the norm and the females all tan on their holidays. There wasn’t much I liked about this book so I’m glad I only paid $1 for it at an op shop. Feel sure my next read will be better. Though this one is my least favorite in the series, it's still a solid contemporary that I flew through. It's not as lighthearted or optimistic as the first installment, but it focuses on heartbreak and incompatible relationships. It shows the aftermath of a whirlwind romance - the "happily ever after" - which many contemporaries don't. Cecilia Ahern makes a splash with "PS, I Love You," a surprisingly charming debut about grief, love, family, and struggling to move on with life. "PS I Love You" is not your typical chick-lit. Sure, it has most of the usual trappings -- a young woman out in the world, the loud 'n 'lovable gay confidante, the outspoken best friend, the eccentric family complete with pink-haired baby sister. But there's no gooey love story with some new Hot Guy Du Jour, nor does it avoid the darker, more depressing experiences. Her characters are very in-depth and dimensional and show various sides of their personalities throughout the novel. This story will make you laugh and cry along with the characters and hope for the best outcome possible for them. Like reading about your best friend, P.S. I LOVE YOU features sub-stories that will appeal to both sexes, both young and old. After a long time read such a sweet and romantic Love story. This story is about Holly Kennedy who is married to Gerry her childhood friend and who dies early in their marriage due to brain tumor. Gerry writes 10 letters to Holly which she reads after he is dead. And these ten letters gives her some reason to live and a reason to move on and love life. This book is for all those who have lost their loved ones, telling them that even after they go you have a life and always live life like a king size. All the things in this book is just perfect making you happy when holly laughs making you as when she is sad this is how he character is in this book. Loved the book and I would say to all readers at least read once. Overall I would say perfectly romantic Goodread... 😊 Meh. I love the movie so I figured I would like the book. The premise is obviously the same but they changed much of the book for the movie and I think those changes were definitely for the better. This book rambles and reverses and contradicts so much, I felt like I was rereading chapters sometimes. The author feels the need to explain all of her metaphors and the conversations were very unrealistic. Glad it's over. I really did enjoy this book, although I found the lead character, Holly, to be pretty half-baked as a person for the first half. I'm not even talking about the grief in her character -- that was to be expected. My primary issue was the whole "living for her husband" aspect, which is a lifestyle decision I cannot relate to. I loved the humour and emotion in the book, though, and I really enjoyed watching how Holly grew as her own person. Overall, excellent read. Where do I start? This book made me fall in love with reading. Ceclia Ahern is one of my favorite authors and has made this one of my all time number one book. She portrays the main characters as the perfect couple yet they have their flaws, but doesn't everyone. Then something drastic happens to her husband and the author paints it so beautifully as the letters keep coming. I won't ruin the plot but would highly recommend. You'll never want to put it down, it will make you laugh, cry and wish for everything to be perfect.
