I loved the movie when it came out, so I thought I'd give the book a try. While I was not moved as emotionally as I was by the movie, the book was much better at presenting the satirical aspects of the story. A new-born baby asking for a suit and a cane; hilarious. His life seemed to last much shorter (maybe because it is only a short story) and I wanted the story to last longer. I highly recommend this if you want a quick read that will grab your attention and ignite your curiosity. ( ) I can't help but be surprised a movie was mad out of this short little novella. The story seems incomplete - or possibly the outline for a story, so maybe the movie goes into more detail? Mainly, I was waiting to be moved. I wanted to be moved by Benjamin Button... I wanted his short span on life going backwards to mean that he savored his days, enjoyed his life, cherished his love (wife) and loved his child. Instead I found a self centered man casually going through life...and very little else. This short story tells of a man who, at the time that he is born, appears to be an old man of seventy. As time passes, he ages "backwards," becoming younger each year. It's an interesting story, and it's well worth the read. This particular edition features quirky (and wonderful) illustrations by Calef Brown. A humorous, original, lighthearted book. Book 170 - F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button I was reading the John Grisham novel ‘Camino Island’ which is about the theft of F.Scott Fitzgerald manuscripts. Through this I realised three things…I knew nothing about Fitzgerald…I had never read any of his books and he wrote ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. The short story of a person who is born old and grows younger each year. The movie from 2008 starring Brad Pitt is disturbing…and strange and one of the most unusual movies I have ever seen. The book tells the same story but is such a condensed version it is difficult to think about it in any other way than a snapshot…almost like the précis of a full novel. Played more laughs…it is such an oddity…worth reading ? Yes…worth spending time analysing ? No…worth a movie ? I think not Think I will return to the great writer soon with ‘The Great Gatsby’…a movie I really loved. no reviews | add a review

In 1860 Benjamin Button is born an old man and mysteriously begins aging backward. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," a witty and fantastical satire about aging, is one of Fitzgerald's most memorable stories. No library descriptions found. |
