This book is about a girl named Raina who trips and falls and her two front teeth falls out. The story follows her whole orthopedic journey as well as she navigates high school. I would use this book to help the 5th graders as they are about to enter middle school and will be navigating finding out who they are. This book tells the story of Raina as she navigates middle and high school while dealing with the challenges of losing her two front teeth and the aftermath that follows. It’s an excellent choice for middle schoolers, as the themes are highly relatable for that age group. Additionally, it serves as a fantastic example of a graphic novel that can engage and resonate with readers, making it a great tool for sparking interest in reading. Smile is def my favorite of Telgemerier's books so far. I think the only one left for me to read is Drama... Probably because I could relate to Smile more. I didnt have braces but I did lose a molar in middle school and needed a retainer. I didnt stick around crappy bully friends long but I also was so self concious and avoided dances. I can't even tell you if I ever liked myseld in High School I spent so much time trying to hide... So yeah I liked Smile a lot. :) no reviews | add a review

HTML:Raina Telgemeier's #1 New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award-winning graphic memoir based on her childhood!Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after Girl Scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly. No library descriptions found. |
