A quirky novella. The entire thing is a run-on sentence with back and forth dialogue that repeats itself for the sake of philosophy. Example: "I would like a boat, But you can't have a boat. I disagree and you will give me a boat, Who are you to ask for a boat in such a way, Someone who needs a boat from someone who has a boat."

The lanuage was beautiful at moments. The story itself is a tale about self-discovery. For that, I appreciated it.

About a 30-45 minute read. ( )

A beautiful, lyrical tale of daring to dream, the risks and rewards thereof, and self-discovery. ( )

Wonderful fable about a man who asks the king for a boat so he can go find the title's unknown island and, in extension, about rulers, identity, and dreamers. Beautifully written in Saramago's compressed style. ( )
