Early Methodism in Wales was a complex phenomenon made up of many different forces and impulses, but its success was based on the fact that the groundwork carried out in the period 1660 to 1730 made men more receptive to the revivalist message and more fully prepared to respond to the exciting spiritual experiences which were now close at hand.
