Snowman Sniffles was a book compiled of several poems related seasons, animals, plants, etc. The one particular poem that I read was titled "Snowman Sniffles", about the changing of seasons from winter to spring. I liked this poem for two reasons. The first reason I liked this poem was because the imagery used was very good. For example, one line said "By day and night, the sniffles drop like flower buds- they never stop". This line allows me to visualize how the snowman continues to melt continuously over time, just like flower buds grow continuously. Using good imagery in poems allows the reader to connect to the writing by using prior knowledge and the visual cues to understand what's going on in the poem.
The second reason I liked this poem (and this book) was because it included some illustrations. One picture showed a snowman with a small drop of water at the end of his carrot nose, and another illustrations showed the completely melted snowman and showed grass and flower buds growing. Including illustrations help the reader understand the author's main idea in the poem, as well as important specifics. The big idea of this poem is how seasons change and this makes the environment look different. ( )
