Rescued from the outrageous neglect of his aunt and uncle, a young boy with a great destiny proves his worth while attending Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches.
TomWaitsTables: You want an explanation? Read The Books of Magic; if you loved Sorcerer's Stone, which is about an ordinary boy discovering a whole new world where he finds a future larger than he had ever imagined, you will love Neil Gaiman's The Books of Magic. If you ever find yourself thinking that after an awful lot of sequels and years of a multi-billion dollar franchise being squeezed for every Knut, that the world of Harry Potter has lost its magic, I urge you to rediscover it again in The Books of Magic. I was hesitant on reading these as I've watched the movies, but i loved the movies and you know what people say - "the book is always better" and that is true once again. I simply could not put it down. The magic of books having you feel the emotions of the characters is something a movie could never achieve. This is the first series I've read which I have watched the movies first and i find myself second guessing my movie memories.. I've noticed myself anticipating little moments that never come, and surprised by moments (and new characters) that were never in the movie,
"Is Peeves in the movies" No, no he isn't. "Didn't Rons broom smack him in the face in the movies" Yes, yes it did.

Quotations

Last words
"They don't know we're not allowed to use magic at home. I'm going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer. . . ."
