I love baseball and have shit myself. She just like me for real. ( ) If his name weren't on the cover, it would be unrecognizable as a Stephen King novel. The readers goes along with Trisha as she is lost in the woods with only the comfort of listening to a baseball game with her favorite player, Tom Gordon. There is an evil presence following her in the woods, and you feel her fear and want to jump into the book to protect her. The ending is satisfying and I cheered. For years this was my favorite Stephen King (after his book on writing) though my husband claimed it was a Stephen King for wimps. Hmph. Now, 25 years after its publication and my first reading of it, I’m rereading it. The years since 1999 have brought a lot my way, both good and really crappy, and I could have used a baseball hero standing beside me. Instead, I have had books to accompany the journey through the years. This one retains a place as one of my favorites of Mr King’s. Purchased during our pre Philly book crawl exploration of local Independent Booksellers. We hit the stores in the weeks ahead of the crawl, to avoid crowds.
As the narrator puts it: "The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted. She knew that now. She was only 9, but she knew it, and she thought she could accept it." Thanks to King's gruesome imagination, you as a reader feel the sharpness of those teeth. Belongs to Publisher SeriesIs contained inHas the adaptationIs abridged inAwardsDistinctionsNotable Lists

HTML:The acclaimed #1 New York Times bestseller from Stephen King—uniquely frightening suspense about a young girl lost in the woods as night falls, with only the voice of her beloved Red Sox relief pitcher to sustain her and help her survive—maybe. During a six-mile hike on the Maine-New Hampshire branch of the Appalachian Trail, nine-year-old Trisha McFarland quickly tires of the constant bickering between her older brother and her recently divorced mother. But when she wanders off by herself, she becomes lost in a wilderness maze full of peril and terror. As night falls, Trisha has only her ingenuity as a defense against the elements, and only her courage and faith to withstand her mounting fears. For solace she tunes her headphones to broadcasts of Boston Red Sox baseball games and follows the gritty performances of her hero, relief pitcher Tom Gordon. And when the reception begins to fade, Trisha imagines that Tom Gordon is with her—the protector from an enemy who may or may not be imagined...one who is watching her, waiting for her in the dense, dark woods...
