The story has a couple of good ideas, but it feels like the book needed to have about 300 pages. So the story twists and turns for a while and then all of a sudden all ends up with the mandatory war over Sookie. ( ) I'm getting a little tired of this series and the amount of death. I try not to get attached to any of the side characters because it seems many of them don't last long. In this volume we have the Were community coming out and a local being _targeted in Merlotte's parking lot; we see more of Sookie's faery connections and not in a good way and the FBI and the new King of Louisiana interested in Sookie's talent. Eric divulges some of his human pre-vampire history but still is the source of many of Sookie's romantic conflicts. I will finish this series to see how it comes out but it is not a favorite. Sadly, Sookie didn't wear any hilarious outfits in this one. And TWO(!) pregnant ladies got killed. I was glad to finally learn what I've suspected all along: Sookie's parents' death was no accident. Duhr. And Eric is currently in first place for Sookie's heart. I hold out hope for Sam, but please don't let her end up with boring Bill. Will Sookie be less bubbly now that she's lived through torture? I sure hope not. Keep rocking those scrunchies, girl.
This is light, slick and eminently readable urban fantasy, and Sookie is an engaging heroine. Sookie must uncover the threats, beat back the danger and find love, perhaps in all the wrong places. Of course, that is why we come back to the series year after year: To root for Sookie. She’s the oddball who lurks in us all. Belongs to SeriesIs contained inAwardsDistinctions
In Bon Temps, Louisiana, a race of unhuman beings--older, more powerful and far more secretive than vampires or werewolves-- is preparing for war. And Sookie Stackhouse will find herself an all-too human pawn in their battle as she investigates the murder of a were-panther. No library descriptions found. |
